“The Ending (His Perspective)” Narrator: James Langston (The Prisoner) FIVE YEARS AGO We’re going out, kicking and screaming. Oh, what a shame, but I should’ve known from the beginning. Take cover, I’m going undercover under the covers of the bed we used to share. I’ll sever from you, your face turning red. I’ll set fire to the memory of our bed. Don’t listen to the devil on your shoulder. I’m shedding blood, you’re out of luck and I’ll come back when you are sober. I’ll cut our story short.
2.
“Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” Narrator: James Langston (The Prisoner) FIVE YEARS AGO The smoke has cleared, the fire is out, the storm is over… but I am bedridden with doubt. How many times is this now? Do we need to be “that house”? The neighbors constantly alerted to our voices much too loud. I’m hitting the road. I will find a better place. There’s nowhere for you to go. Your time is up. Enjoy your stay. I’m sorry to say I’m not sorry at all. I caught your hand too many times, now I have to let you fall. I’ll miss my kids, but it’s for the best. I can’t allow them to grow up in a house of such unrest. I’ll be crystal clear, there’s no home for me here. You’ve pushed much to far. My heart won’t last another year. It’s the same day over and over again. This heartless cycle has come to an end at my hand. I’ll end the constant storm.
3.
Middle Kids 02:43
“Middle Kids” Narrator: James Langston (The Free) FIVE YEARS AGO Wake up, son. It’s visitation day. We’ll go play soccer at the park by where we used to stay. We’ll jump and shout and run. Run me ragged and down to the bone. You challenge my whereabouts with a face carved from the softest stone. Your mind knows I’ll do the things you like. Wake up, daughter. It’s visitation day. We’ll catch a movie at the theater before I drive away. We’ll watch the heroes win. When it ends, we’ll listen to the song and eat our popcorn as the credits slowly scroll along. Your heart knows I’ll do the things you like. Wake up, baby. It’s visitation day. You don’t quite know me, but I pray to god you’ll learn my name. Your soul knows I’ll do the things you like. And I’ll keep up the fight to get you back.
4.
“Feeling Love Again, But For The First Time” Narrator: James Langston (The Free) FIVE YEARS AGO Hey stranger, you look so good today. Now I know this might sound sudden but, with you, I want to run away. I’ll take you to the place you want to go. But if you do not want to move, then your town will be my home. Take solace, I do not have a home. I see you have a son. Well, I will love him like my own. I’ll take your hand as our skin begins to blend. Though it has been through some kind of hell, my heart is finally on the mend. I’m falling fast and I’m falling hard. Please save my soul. No, I can’t afford the crown, but I’m asking you to be my queen. PRESENT DAY Hey lover, it’s been five years with no breaks. I can’t explain this simple love, but I have cherished every day. I never thought this love could be true. I’m thankful for the war that I endured, for it led me straight to you. I won’t let go. No, I can’t afford the crown, but I’m asking you to be my queen.
5.
“The Only Way Out I: Friday Night Lights” Narrator: Shane Dreyer (The Athlete) PRESENT DAY Your average Friday night. On our hands is a fight. We’re fighting for a future away from here. I’m working like a slave. I’m counting down the days where I can live a life without endless fear. I always run like I’m running away. I’m eager for the day I will be a different man. I have so much to say, and I have a master plan. I’ll play on greener pastures now. My new average Friday night. There are so many lights and I can’t keep the vices away from me. A far cry from my life of organized high school fights. I will never again taste monotony. Listen to my master plan. I’ll play this game, I’ll acquire fame and my life will never be the same. I’ll do my part. I’ll tear them apart. I’ll leave this world behind for better days. If I want to escape, the time is now. “Root for the home team!”
6.
“The Only Way Out II: Soldier Boy” Narrator: Hayden Dreyer (The Soldier) PRESENT DAY Here we are. Here we throw away the pages of our books. A better life and forgiveness from our lives of thieves and crooks. The bus stops here, I’ll miss you my dear. I made the move I needed to. I’m in deeper waters now. I’ve arrived at these crossroads where need to need to make a choice. Desperation painted me a fool, I’m hating my own voice. This is not me, but for now it must be. This was the only way for me. The only door that let me leave. What do I do when the letters stop coming? When your hand tires of writing? There is no turning back for me. What do I do when I can’t just quit? My eyes are heavy, my stomach growing sick. I don’t think I can cope. Your love is my only hope. Now I lie everyday to keep the money on my books. I cannot stand in the face of all the pretend worship looks. I don’t have you. What I need you to do is put to paper the pen, and start writing me again. May I have your love again to keep me on my feet? I cannot move with my heart in two. I need your breath to leave. I need you, please. Don’t you dare abandon me. I’ll shed these colors and I’ll run back to our home for your love
7.
“Factory Reset” Narrator: Joseph Dreyer (The Abandoned) PRESENT DAY My brothers have abandoned me. They took their first chance to leave. Now I am stuck here as dead weight in the old dead end factory. Wake up! It’s time to punch the clock. Still twelve more hours ‘til I’m off. This is a loneliness I never thought I’d ever need to feel. I swear I had the grandest plans. I could’ve been a better man, but now I’m stuck here as a shell of who intended to be. Four more hours ‘til the winter. I never knew such a sweet town could leave me feeling bitter. If I could bring you back, I’d let you burn it down. We could escape this place together. Through rain or sunny weather, I’m with you. Time’s up! I’ve been here for too long. I really wish I could’ve gone, but circumstances kept me suspended with zero chance to leave. My brothers have their better days. I need to find a goddamn way to leave this spinning clock behind and never come back here again. We approach the final hour. Oh what a shame, I hope my body is laden with flowers. Give me all the flowers.
8.
“The Only Way Out III: Coffin Charmer” Narrators: Father Aaron Cline (The Priest) & Joseph Dreyer (The Dead) PRESENT DAY It’s the end for me. By my own hand I now bleed. Kicking chairs tonight. I know everyone will ask why. Such a simple fate to escape this town I hate. I’ll wear this endless frown until responders cut me down. Let the darkness take me. Please bring flowers to my wake. I’ll fly home tonight among the stars over this town I hate.
9.
“The Beginning (Her Perspective)” Narrator: Mallory Fehler (The Ex) FIFTEEN YEARS AGO We’re going out on our first date. This is my golden ticket. I hope he likes the dress my mom made. The devil here, safe in my head, knows if he leaves I’ll kill him dead. I cannot let this boy escape. This town fills me with dread. I’ll never be good. What I’ve done makes that clear. If he’s had enough I’ll blame the voices in my ear. I’ll listen to the devil on my shoulder. I can’t escape if he won’t take me from this town where life is colder. Can you be my way out? Let me learn to love you. I promise I’ll be grateful. I’ll try not to be hateful. FIVE YEARS AGO We’re going out kicking and screaming. This decade pushed him too far. He gave up, and now he’s leaving. I never thought I could push him away. I thought we were invincible, but I destroyed the love he claimed. I’m tethered to you. You can’t see my face. I’m broken in two from this hell that I have made. I’m angry at the devil on my shoulder. It steered me wrong, now I’m alone and you’re happy with a new lover. You were my way out, but I fucked it up this time. Now I’m stuck in the town where no one lives.
10.
“We Make Our Own History” Narrator: Tonya Casey (The Love) PRESENT DAY To James: The second time’s the charm. I’m so happy to be here on your arm. I will bring you no harm, and you will inspire me to disarm. Your ex-wife was the worst. My ex-husband is a distant second to yours. I’m glad these unions didn’t work. Now we can blend our families and smile first. I’ll walk the aisle now. A moment we have waited on for ages. How can I be this lucky gun, when you see me and swear you’re the lucky one? To Mallory: Stay mad, I got him now. The devil on your shoulder couldn’t help but let you down. What if I told you that the reason for your early end was on no one else but you? Here we are. Here we add the better pages to our books. A better life where we hide away from thieving, lying crooks. You don’t live here. I’ll make this one crystal clear: You are nothing more to me than the spark that made him leave.
11.
“As Close To Perfect As Can Be” Narrators: Father Aaron Cline (The Priest) & James Langston (The Groom) PRESENT DAY “Dearly beloved, we gather here for one cause: To unite these houses in front of you all…” This new love, flawlessly unfamiliar, it’s taken my entire breath away. In this new town I feel so safe and at home. Friends and family welcome me with open arms. “Take her hand and say I do. I now present to you this couple. Now give them all your applause.” My new wife… I hit the jackpot this time. I never thought I’d feel such a pure love. I love our son. Soon we’ll welcome another one. Our house and love grows greatly by the day. But there is one thing that I need to complete this holy scene. The final piece of my peace. I need them back. I need my children back.

about

Inspired by drives through west Texas to and from Arizona, and the small towns that pepper the region, Enjoy Your Stay tells the story of a small town that could really be Anywhere, USA. Here we find the stories of those who have loved and lost, and loved again. We see the desperate attempts to escape the seemingly dead end landscape that stretches in all directions. We explore those who make their way out of the town, as well as the unfortunate souls that the town swallows whole. This story could be happening anywhere, but this time it's happening here.

Enjoy your stay...
