Black Blood 02:42
"Black Blood" Narrator: Tamir "TJ" Martin Jr. PRESENT DAY I've been black my whole life, so this comes as no surprise. But it still hurts me anyway. I know not what to say. They, clad in blue, take our lives. Red hands dare snuff out our light, then throw our image on the screen; screaming we are the "obscene". Another victim painted guilty, chalk outlines plague the city. If I can't make you believe that this blood on the street is worth as much as the protectors you hold dear... If I can't just make you see this black blood on the street, then this assault will permeate endless, I fear. I have been black my whole life. It should come as no surprise that I am angry with this norm, now I'm welcoming the storm. You, under oath, dare to lie. I know not how you sleep at night. But they protect you just the same. This whole damn system is to blame. Another killer found "not guilty", chalk outlines plague the city. Another way to judge the guilty, chalk outlines plague the city.

Stavesacre 02:20
"Stavesacre" Narrator: Mr. & Mrs. Arroyo PRESENT DAY As lovers do, we were made to drift apart, so don't we refuse to start? Our story rolled the credits before we got off the ground. Things will always be the same here stuck on old Peppertree Lane. There is sin stuck in the clouds, so why don't we be honest now? I should've known we were always doomed to fail. Our fortune on the walls in braille. We were never meant to be more than the parents of our kids. I will never be the same. Twenty-four years, we're both to blame. Our boys don't live here anymore. What are we still doing this for? Things will always be the same, in this old house I dare not claim. These walls aren't big enough for you and I.
3.
By Proxy 03:16
"By Proxy" Narrator: James Langston PRESENT DAY If I, by association, could walk into heaven... I would be one grateful heathen. If I, by proxy, could shrug off the flaming sea and dance among the clouds... you and me. If any "god" should call you when we pass, can you see if they'll allow me in your class? I'm not sure I even believe in God anymore. I hope he understands if I come knocking at his door. This time we have above ground is not enough to spend together. I'd like to spend forever with you. If I, as a rare exception, could walk into heaven... I hope I won't be quite as stubborn as I've been. If I, vicariously, could enjoy admission to the gates and live forever as the love in life you claimed... If you should ever miss me when I die, can you see if God will allow this to fly?

about

The first single from the upcoming sophomore album, "Houses & Humans", "Black Blood" follows a new perspective in the town through the eyes of TJ Martin; a young black man who is witnessing the rampant anti-black racism across the United States. Stuck in the powerless position of the voyeur, we follow TJ as he comes to grips with the state of his world and dreams of revolution.

Coupled with the single are two b-sides from the "House & Humans" sessions that expand on some of the story from that record. "Stavesacre" is a cut from the Peppertree Lane chapter of the album and details the implosion of the Arroyo family, and "By Proxy" takes place on Pollard Avenue where we visit with the returning James Langston as he details his newfound faithlessness and what that might mean regarding his "forever" with his wife Tonya Casey.

"Houses & Humans" will be released on January 24th, 2020.
