"Coleman Street"
Narrator: Tamir Martin
1979

Segregation with the kids in the park. Schools reflect the hell in the streets. Monochromatic in the church, where preachers speak of hell from beneath. Death invites itself for the fun, where the smiles turn to blood and loud screams. Never knowing which way to run to escape from the gunfire they've seen.

It's always black and white on Coleman Street.

Another normal day is more than I can hope for, but I'm praying anyway that this won't be my final resting place. I see my brothers and my sisters in the street, bloody from guns and police. If I stay is this all I will come to be?

I cannot see a way to get ahead. If I look at the "devil" the wrong way I will be dead. Can I please entertain my dreams? I'd give up damn near anything...

Another bloody day is all we've come to know. If I make it to next year, I will graduate and finally hit the road. I see my brothers and my sisters in the street marching for what they believe. Dare I see if there is room for me? Can we break the cycle here? Can we cut the poison and the fear?
